Quarter 4 starts in less than 1 month

I repeat. Q4 STARTS IN 1 MONTH.

Before you scramble over to dig out the laundry list of goals you set in Q1 (and beat yourself up for the ones you haven’t crossed off yet)

Or dust off the course you bought in January that so and so raved, “Will change your life!”

Let’s take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

We approach the New Year with the best of intentions.

Afterall, it’s a time for renewal, reflection, and rejuvenation!

When January rolls around, we rush over to Target to pick out the perfect planner, buy the shiniest software that’s going to “make our businesses so much better!”, and write at least 10 goals for the year ahead.

But in the blink of an eye, it’s the end of August (Q4 staring us in the face) and we’re in the exact same spot we were at the beginning of the year.

But why?

Because of shiny object syndrome! 🪩

The actual definition of shiny object syndrome is “the situation where people focus undue attention on an idea that is new and trendy, yet drop it in its entirety as soon as something new can take its place.” – Wikipedia

You know, that new planner? That new software (that you never implemented)?

I too, suffer from shiny object syndrome (SOS) 🆘

For instance, we implemented a task management software in 2021, and I’m still getting in the habit of using it regularly (instead of emailing lists, random ideas, and reminders to myself.)

We think the New Year is going to bring a new version of ourselves. Then fast forward to mid-January, we’re back at our old habits and our goals are buried in the digital graveyard.

If that’s what happened to you in Q1 & Q2, you’re not alone!

But, not all hope is lost for your 2023 goals. There’s still hope for the rest of Q3 & Q4.

Here are 3 things to do this week to move the needle on your 2023 goals, without overwhelm

To help you take action on your goals (and cross them off your list before the clock strikes midnight on 2023).

Get realistic about what you want to (& realistically can) accomplish in the rest of 2023
Break up your goals into micro-actions. List out all the steps it will take to reach the goal.
Schedule each step into your calendar.

Here’s an example you might use:

THE GOAL: Work with 5 more homeowners in 2023.

THE MICRO-ACTIONS

Engage with 1 new local, Instagram account every day.
Customize & send a monthly newsletter to your database (with a CTA to forward to friends).
Customize & regularly promote a seasonal, local freebie to build your email list.
Post 2 times per week on Instagram & Facebook.
Share behind the scenes content to Instagram stories 4 days per week (just 1 minute worth of stories per day – who doesn’t have 1 minute)?!
Attend a local event (and document it of course) Bonus Points if you connect with someone new!

THEN, SCHEDULE EVERYTHING.

While you’re tackling the goals on your list, let me take one thing off of it… YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA.
