I’m currently curled up on my couch with a glass of red wine, a fire going and a book in my lap that I just set down so I could write you this letter đź’Ś
And I have a feeling what I’m about to share could be the biggest “aha moment” for your marketing in 2026.
Believe it or not, this lightbulb moment happened shortly after opening up the novel, The Correspondent by Virginia Evans while driving to Iowa for Christmas with my dad’s side of the family.
Not a business book at all, rather a novel told in the form of letters..
You’re literally piecing the entire story together from reading letters written primarily by a 77 year old woman named Sybil as well as the letters she receives in return.
It’s arguably one of the best books I’ve ever read and here’s why I’m telling you about it..
First, there’s something so simple and nostalgic about letter writing isn’t there?
It’s not something that feels performative like much of marketing does. It instead feels…. real?
Reading this book made me think of the letters my grandma sends us throughout the year (my favorite piece of mail to get).
She writes to me as if she’s writing in her diary, sharing about her day, giving me an update on what she’s been up to.
She tells me about her garden, the tomatoes that ripened perfectly that day, the recipe she tried and loved (or didn’t), how she really feels about the church service the new pastor did.
It doesn’t matter what she’s writing about, I can picture her in her cute little house, drinking a steaming hot cup of black coffee at her dining room table, writing out the letter. And as I read it, I can hear her voice coming through the pages.
So what does Sybil, my grandma, writing letters and reading popular fiction novels have to do with you and your marketing?
EVERYTHING.
Here’s the thing..
We often constantly overthink how we show up on social media.
What should we post?
How often?
Should we put that on stories or in the feed?
Should this be a carousel post or a reel?
Should we change the font style or just keep it looking editorial like every other agent?
How often should we share something personal?
How do we creatively post about our listing?
etc.etc.etc.
Can your relate, First name / friend?
Don’t worry, I have some really good news…
If you just leaned into this ONE THING, it would eliminate MOST OF the questions above.
Show up like you’re writing a letter ✍️ (tell me you’re not surprised this is where I was going with this, lol)
Think of your “content” like you’re creating it for ONE PERSON (not the masses)
Write the way you’d write a letter to a friend (the same tone of voice, the simple way you explain something)
Stop making everything performative and “look at me” / “look what I did”!
When it comes to the look/style? What kind of stationary would YOU buy? What color ink would you choose for your pen?
Start documenting and sharing “diary style”, what could be helpful or entertaining to the people you would LOVE to connect with in your sphere and your community.
I’m going to be back soon for Part 2 (with some step by step strategies to implement).
But in the meantime, I want you to think about what you would say if you were to write a letter to your grandma, your favorite author, your best friend, your past client… (and what kind of stationary would you choose)?
What would it say? What would you tell them about?
Chances are, it would actually sound like you wrote it, it would give glimpses into your life, and it would be enjoyable to read.
Which not so shockingly, is exactly how our social media content should feel too.
In a world where it feels like AI is quite literally taking over, real estate agents seem like a dime a dozen, and social media is on information overload – being YOU and letting people in, is your biggest only competitive advantage.
And I’m going to help you leverage it, First name / friend!
