You know what’s scarier than showing your face on camera? Spending the next five years wishing you had!

In this episode, Chelsea and Kayla are talking about the thing that keeps SO many agents stuck: the fear of getting on video. They’re breaking down the excuses that keep you hiding behind graphics and carousels, what to do when you hate how you sound or look on camera, and how to reframe what you’re really afraid of. If your sphere feels stagnant and you’re wondering why the referrals aren’t rolling in, this might be your sign to start showing up differently.

The life you want is on the other side of hitting record.

What’s Really Holding You Back from Getting on Video?

Most agents aren’t avoiding video because they actually look bad on camera. They’re avoiding it because of what showing up consistently might mean:

Will people judge me?

Will I say something wrong?

What if I look silly?

What if no one watches?

You’re not alone in feeling this way. The fear of recording yourself is common and shows up in so many ways…

Maybe you’re the agent who posts beautiful graphics but never shows your face. Or maybe you film a reel, watch it back seventeen times, and delete it because “ugh, I just don’t like how I sound.”

But that fear isn’t protecting you. It’s keeping you stuck.

On the other side of that fear, there’s connection, trust, and the kind of relationship with your audience that turns followers into clients and clients into raving fans who can’t stop talking about you.

Staying invisible is way scarier than any video you could post!

The “I Don’t Like How I Sound” Excuse (And Why It Doesn’t Matter)

Nobody likes how they sound on video at first. It’s just a thing. Your voice sounds different to you than it does to everyone else because of how sound travels through your skull. Science is weird like that.

But you know what? Your clients don’t care.

They’re not sitting there analyzing your vocal tone or critiquing your hand gestures. They’re listening to see if you can help them. They’re watching to see if they trust you. They’re scrolling to find someone who feels real and relatable and like they actually know what they’re talking about.

“I don’t like how I sound” is the smallest excuse standing between you and everything you say you want.

You want more closings? You want to be the go-to agent in your market? You want to build a business that gives you financial freedom and lets you live the life you’ve been dreaming about?

Then you have to get over yourself. And we say that with so much love!

Your Stagnant Sphere Might Be Your Wake-Up Call

One of the questions that came up in this episode was from an agent who said her sphere feels stagnant. She’s been in the business for a while, she’s got connections, but things just aren’t moving the way she wants them to.

And Chelsea and Kayla had the best response: your sphere might not be moving, but they absolutely have the ability to refer you to people who are.

Think about it. Your friends, your family, your past clients… they know people. They work with people. They talk to people every single day who might be thinking about buying or selling. But if you’re not showing up in a way that keeps you top of mind, how are they supposed to remember to mention your name?

This is where showing up on video becomes a total game-changer.

When you’re consistently on Instagram stories talking about your day, sharing what you’re working on, giving a behind-the-scenes look at a showing, or even just showing up to say “hey, here’s what I’m loving this week” — you’re building that connection. You’re staying top of mind. You’re living rent-free in their brain (in the best way possible).

And when their coworker mentions they’re thinking about selling, you’re the first person they think of!

Chelsea put it this way:

“Maybe showing up on social media in a more powerful way, getting those people on an email list, having people feel like they can connect with you, you’re top of mind, you live rent free in their brain… now they’re gonna remember to tell their neighbor or their friend or their buddy at the baseball game.”

Your sphere isn’t the problem. The way you’re showing up (or not showing up) might be.

You Don’t Need Everyone — You Just Need Your Super Fans

You don’t need thousands of followers to build a thriving real estate business. You don’t need a massive email list or a viral reel or a perfectly curated feed.

What you need is a small group of people who absolutely love you and can’t wait to tell everyone about you.

Kayla said it best:

“You need a small amount of super fans that can’t wait to tell people about you.”

These are the people who slide into your DMs just to say they loved your recent post. The ones who tag you in stories when their friend asks for an agent recommendation. The ones who genuinely feel connected to you because you’ve been showing up consistently and authentically.

And how do you get those super fans? You show up. You get on video. You let people see who you really are.

Chelsea shared this quote that we absolutely love:

“Do for one person what you wish you could do for many.”

You can’t show up for everyone in the most powerful way possible. But you can show up deeply for the people who are already in your world. You can voice message someone back. You can send a thoughtful email. You can genuinely invest in the relationships that matter.

You don’t need everyone to know your name. You just need the right people to be so obsessed with you that they can’t help but share you with everyone they know.

What Do You Actually Want?

Kayla asked the most important question in the entire episode: “What do you want?”

Not what do you think you should want. Not what sounds good when people ask. But what do you actually, deep down, really want?

Do you want a business that gives you a little financial freedom? A few extra thousand dollars here and there for family vacations? That’s totally fine. There’s nothing wrong with that.

But if you’re someone who secretly dreams about building real wealth, the kind where you can bless your kids, take care of your family, invite people to your vacation home when they need a break, live generously without worrying about the budget… then you have to be honest about that.

Because if that’s the life you want, getting on video isn’t optional. Being uncomfortable isn’t optional. Putting yourself out there, even when it feels awkward or scary, isn’t optional.

Kayla said something that gave us full-body chills:

“If that’s the kind of life I want, getting on video, getting uncomfortable, putting myself out there, like having those conversations, not always having the answers — that’s not optional. Those are the risks I’m going to take to get to the life that I want.”

So what do you want? Really?

Because once you get clear on that answer, all the excuses start to feel a whole lot smaller.

The Legacy Question That Puts Everything Into Perspective

Chelsea shared something from a recent series at her church that hit us hard. They were asked to take some time and write down: When I die, what do I want someone to say about me?

What kind of mom was I? What kind of business owner was I? What kind of friend was I? What legacy do I want to leave for my kids, my family, my community?

Suddenly, “I don’t like how I look on camera” feels so small and insignificant. So silly compared to the bigger picture of the life you’re trying to build and the person you’re trying to become.

Chelsea put it perfectly:

“That is such a bigger thing than what you maybe have right this second today, but it can put you in the right direction to never ever make a silly excuse again.”

So if you’re sitting here reading this and you’ve been putting off video, putting off showing up, putting off doing the thing you know you need to do… ask yourself that question.

What do I want my legacy to be?

And then ask yourself if the excuse you’re holding onto is worth sacrificing that.

Getting on Video is the Least Scary Thing You Could Do

Getting on video is actually the least scary thing you could do for your business.

You know what’s scarier?

Looking back five years from now and realizing you stayed stuck in the same place because you were too afraid to show your face.

Watching other agents in your market build thriving businesses while you stayed invisible.

Missing out on clients, connections, and opportunities because you let fear make your decisions.

Wishing you had just started sooner.

Chelsea shared a story about a creator who decided to just share her life online for a year. She posted about her new baby, the things she loved, the everyday moments. And yeah, she looked back at some of those videos and cringed a little. But you know what else happened? She quit her corporate job and now gets to stay home full-time with her baby.

All because she showed up. All because she got on video. All because she didn’t let the fear win.

So if you’re ready to finally stop hiding, to start building the business and life you actually want, to show up in a way that matters — Camp Modern Agent is for you.

It’s a free, week-long experience where you’ll figure out your brand, learn what to post, get clear on your message, and finally feel confident showing up on camera. Members and non-members welcome.

Because this isn’t just about getting on video. It’s about building a legacy.

And that starts with hitting record.
