Chelsea’s still in Florida, soaking up the sun, and that means I (Kayla) get to do a solo episode today, which is great, because I have A LOT to say.
I recently took an AI course from the top AI education company in the world, and you want to know what the very first thing their founder said was? You need a personal brand. I’m not kidding. And I felt that fire in my bones, because it is so validating to know that the stake in the ground Chelsea and I have always planted — personal brand first, everything else second — is exactly right.
Today I’m talking about AI, the sea of sameness swallowing up social media, why “very good” content is actually killing your growth, and what it actually looks like to build something that lasts. Because we know what gets the likes and the saves and the shares, and we also know that’s not what’s going to change your life.
Your personal brand will, and I want to show you why!
The Rooms You Put Yourself In Matter
I want to tell you a little garden metaphor (you know, I love these!).
I had two flower bulbs. One went into a small three-inch biodegradable pot. The other, I ran out of the right-sized pots, so I dropped it into a bigger one, maybe eight inches. I wrote that second bulb off, thinking the water was probably sinking too far down into the soil and not even reaching it.
We went to Florida on vacation, and when I came back, the little pot had grown about an inch, bright green and looking great. When I looked over at the big pot, not only were there multiple stems coming up from that one bulb, but they were averaging between six and ten inches long.
While on the surface, it seemed like nothing was happening, underneath, the roots were growing rapidly since they had so much room to spread. And from that deep work done underneath the soil, that’s why that massive growth was able to happen.
The rooms you put yourself in matter.
It wasn’t long ago that when I’d hear people like Jenna Kutcher or Amy Porterfield talk about getting in bigger rooms, it sounded like a really privileged place. Like, sure, I’d love to be in a multi-million dollar mastermind, but that’s not for me. That’s what I always thought.
But this last year, Chelsea and I invested in some programs and coaching where I genuinely felt like that small, tiny bulb. I was the least informed person in the room by far, to the point where I couldn’t even think of a question to ask because I didn’t know what they were talking about.
But planting myself in something bigger was the very best thing for me.
That’s also exactly why we host Camp Modern Agent. It’s a room where you might walk in thinking, I don’t even know if this whole personal brand thing is going to work for me. I don’t even know what questions to ask. Or maybe you walk in thinking, I dare you to tell me something I don’t know. Both of those agents always end up in the same place by the end: now I get how it works for me. Now I know how to take this and make it actually apply to my brand. Now I know what it takes to stand out in my market.
What I Learned from the Top AI Education Company in the World
I’d been hearing about Claude for a while and using it in pretty elementary ways — clean this up, help me say this more clearly. We never really used it to write because it was awful. Sometimes I’d organize all my thoughts and ask it to make sense of them, and it would spit out something that made me more confused than when I started.
But I kept hearing about all the ways AI could work beyond what I could imagine. So I took a course from Callan Faulkner, the top AI education company in the world, and I was blown away. And of course, as soon as you invest in something, you start seeing it everywhere. Once I learned about Claude, every time I logged into Instagram, all I saw were Claude prompts and templates and “steal this skill” posts.
And I totally understand the pull. When Canva templates first became a thing, everyone was grabbing for all of them. If this saved her so much time, surely it’ll save me that much time too, right?
But here’s what I learned: all of these skills and prompts only work well if they are custom-made for you.
One of the things Callan shared was a family meal planner prompt. Everyone immediately wanted it. I downloaded it, answered the questions, and it spit out the most vanilla thing ever, even though it asked me personal questions. Why? Because it was designed to be for everyone.
So instead, I went in and uploaded all of my recipes, our schedule, what my kids will and won’t eat, how much time I want to spend on meals, our go-to favorites, our never-evers. I gave it real detail, and the output was incredible.
There is no one-size-fits-all prompt. The best way to make AI work for you is to create things yourself and make your own input.
And then, on the very first day of this challenge, Callan said something that made me know I could trust her:
“As a founder and a leader, I believe that every single person should have a personal brand. I believe everyone should be investing in that asset because no matter what happens, ideally, you have your thoughts, you have your intellectual property, you have your frameworks — and that’s the thing I’ve been investing in over the last two years. That’s my personal brand.”
The founder and CEO of the largest AI education company in the world opened her challenge by saying: you need a personal brand. I felt that fire in my bones. Because this is the stake in the ground Chelsea and I have always planted, and it is so validating to hear it echoed from someone at that level.
The Difference Between Very Good and Remarkable
There is such a sea of sameness out there. You’ve probably felt it, even if you’re not following a ton of real estate agents. When you scroll Instagram or TikTok or YouTube, so much content sounds the same. It might have a good hook, visuals, logo, colors, and it is still completely forgettable.
In his book Purple Cow, Seth Godin talks about how making content that is very good is actually killing you. The opposite of very good is not bad — it’s remarkable. And that’s the question we need to be asking: how do we go from very good to remarkable?
Most of us would hear “very good” and think, great, I’ll take it. There are very good Claude prompts, templates, and lead magnets. But “very good” is the stuff that gets scrolled past.
Remarkable content is overflowing with your personal brand. It is oozing at the seams with you, almost like it cannot be contained. We tell our members: we give you the bones to be remarkable. We create very good content and then give you all the tips and direction to add yourself to it, so that piece of content becomes remarkable.
Even content that goes viral isn’t always a win. I’ve seen agents say that their most viral post was actually one of the worst things for them, because it brought in people who didn’t care about anything else they said. It watered everything down and messed with their analytics.
What we want for you is clarity on what your personal brand is and what it looks like. And then to start going a little deeper, and a little deeper, and a little deeper — so your content can go from very good to remarkable.
Why We’ll Always Push the Boulder Up the Hill
Chelsea and I know things would be a lot easier for us if we just did the status quo. If we gave everyone the listing templates and viral hooks that promise to change everything. If we put out content like that every week, we’d have hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram by end of year. Our membership would probably grow like crazy. We know what gets likes. We know what gets saved and shared.
But we also know the thing that’s actually going to change your life.
Every time we go round and round about what we could do or say or make, that conversation always ends the same way: but that’s not going to solve their problem. It’s not going to give them more time with their family. It’s not going to give them clients who already trust them before they ever open the first DM. It’s not going to give them the referrals, the freedom, the confidence, or the peace of mind.
None of those things actually solve the problem.
So we keep pushing the boulder up the hill. Even when it would be so much easier to turn around and let it roll. We do it because we care about you too much to hand you a mediocre solution that feels like the answer but won’t actually do anything for you.
Personal brands are the answer. They are the answer to what the future of your business actually depends on. It’s not Claude. It’s not templates. It’s not the right prompts or the right system. None of those things will carry you very far if you don’t have a personal brand underneath them.
Everyone mentions personal branding. It’s become a buzzword, but it’s a lot more than that to us. We truly believe it’s the thing that will change your life. And every single thing we put out there backs that up.
Your Personal Brand Is the Answer — Here’s What to Do Next
There is so much more room than for one agent to rise to the top in a market. You can’t handle 5,000 transactions a year, and you don’t even want to. You don’t want to be the answer for everybody — you want your people. The ones who are ride or die, who love you dearly, who would never dream of working with anybody else, and who cannot shut up about you.
That’s what a personal brand gives you. And there’s plenty of room in your market for you and your best friend and a whole group of you to all have strong personal brands and all rise to the top.
We’d love for you to join us at Camp Modern Agent. It’s where we gather, get focused, and really dive deep on your personal brand — what it means, what it looks like for you, and how to apply it to your day-to-day. We meet for about an hour to an hour and a half every day for three days, and we have seen agents walk away already getting more engagement, more DMs, and more conversations by day two.
When you really understand the power of personal branding and how to sprinkle it into everything you do, your content will never look like any other agent’s — even your best friend who goes through camp right alongside you. Both of you will stand out. Both of you will be the obvious choice for someone in your market. That’s the beauty of this.
You can find all the details and register at modernagentsocialclub.com/camp. We cannot wait to see you there!
